Which mode when: an honest guide to 18 / 25 / 27.5

The numbers on the dial are SNR ratings. Useful on a spec sheet, less useful at the door of a club. Here is the translation.

18 dB — Focus. Open offices, the BTS at rush hour, a cafe with one loud table. The room comes down; voices and announcements stay clear.

25 dB — Live. Clubs, gigs, festival main stages. The mix stays intact, just at a level you can hold all night.

27.5 dB — Sleep. After-hours, thin walls, a flight home. The loudest setting for the quietest part of your day.
